Mass User Upload
Mass User Upload is a way to quickly add many users to Cognition.
Table of Contents
To start, click on Mass User Upload under the User Management heading in the Administration menu.
Uploading a User List
To perform a Mass User Upload, you'll need to prepare an Excel file with all the users you wish to upload and their information. It is recommended to use the template provided by Cognition.
Note: When building your User List in Excel, you will want to make sure that the file does not have any active filters. If you have data filtered out that is not displaying on the spreadsheet, when you go to process the Mass User Upload, the users that seem “filtered out” will still be included in the upload.
Once you have an Excel file prepared, click on the … button to upload it. If your first row is of headers, be sure to check the The first row of my file contains column headers checkbox. You can also edit/update existing users with a Mass User Upload. Once you have uploaded the file and checked the appropriate boxes, click Next.
Template, Required Columns
On the template, columns with red headers are always required. Columns with blue headers are required only when using the Add New Users Only and Add New Users and Update Existing Users options. Depending on your configuration, an External Unique ID may also be required.
Mapping
Cognition will attempt to automatically map user properties to the various columns in your Excel file. If you used the template, this shouldn't require editing. If any properties and columns aren't mapped properly, you can remap them at this time. It is recommended to test all Mass User Uploads. This will allow you to check for errors before you finalize your changes. To do this check off the Test this job before Committing any changes checkbox.
NOTE: If you use an External Unique ID (EUID), supervisors must be assigned by EUID, NOT Login ID.
Finalizing and Committing
If you elected to test the upload, you will see this screen including the THIS JOB HAS NOT BEEN COMMITTED banner. If you chose not to test your upload, you will see a very similar screen with no banner and no options to commit/delete the job. You will see a count of errors and warnings and a notification of whether or not the overall upload is successful. If you are satisfied with the results, click Commit Job to complete the upload. Otherwise, you can click Delete Job. Clicking Download Detail Report will generate a Excel file with a summary of any errors or warnings and a line by line breakdown of every entry and any errors or warnings for that line.
