Creating a Leaderboard

Leaderboards are a way to foster friendly competition between locations, regions/districts, and divisions. Users earn points for their location by completing assignments on time. Extra points may be awards by scoring highly on tests and passing tests on the first try.

To get started, navigate to Leaderboards administration under the Administration tab. Then select the green Add New button in the upper right.

This Add a Leaderboard page will appear.

General information

Here you fill out Code, Name, Description, Date Range, and Learning Modules.

Campaign Scope

  • Grouping Type - You may select Location Hierarchy, Extended Property, and Job Code.

    • Location Hierarchy groups all of the participating users by location, region/district, and division.

    • Extended Property refers to Extended User Properties. This groups participating users by a specific Extended Property of your choice. Users are grouped by the value they have for that property.

    • Job Code groups participating users by their job codes.

Scoring settings

  • Completion Points - Amount of points rewarded for completing a learning module on time.

  • Completion Past Due Points - Amount of points rewarded for completing a learning module past it’s set due date.

  • Test Score Multiplier - Amount of points rewarded to a completed user’s test percentage. Examples: If a user got a 80% on their test and the test score multiplier is set to 1. Then they would receive 80 points. Now instead let us set the test score multiplier to 2. Now the user would receive 160 points. Only affects learning modules with tests. If there is no test with a learning module, than the user receives maximum potential credit for this field.

  • Passed on First Try Bonus - Amount of points rewarded for passing a learning module on the student’s first attempt. Only affects learning modules with tests. If there is no test with a learning module, than the user receives maximum potential credit for this field.

  • 100% on First Try Bonus - Amount of points rewarded for scoring 100% for a learning module on the student’s first attempt. Only affects learning modules with tests. If there is no test with a learning module, than the user receives maximum potential credit for this field.

  • Total Points Possible - Amount of points possible for completing a single learning module.

These scoring settings are recommended to reward users who complete their learning modules on time. This can be done by awarding more generous points to those who pass on their first try or get points from how the user scored on their test.

Participants

Now select Add Leaderboard and the leaderboard has been created, but there are no participating users or locations yet. To finish the set up go to the Participants tab of your leaderboard.

On the Participants tab, you’ll see a hierarchy of all your organization’s Divisions, Districts, and Locations.

  • Click on the blue triangle next to the checkbox to reveal all the districts or locations within.

  • Check any box to include that Division/District/Location in the participants.

  • Uncheck a box to remove that Division/District/Location from the participants.

Note: You may notice that a horizontal line appears within some checkboxes. This is to indicate that only specific locations are selected within the division or district.

Once you have selected all of your desired participating locations, select the Update button at the bottom of the page and now the creation of your Leaderboard is complete.

How Users Will Access the Leaderboard

In order for a leaderboard to appear on a user’s dashboard, the user must be included in the Participants and within System Settings the Show Leaderboard Dashboard field must be enabled.

A user will also have the option to view the leaderboard by completing one of the selected learning modules. A pop up window will appear congratulating them on their completion. A user may select the view link to view their leaderboard progress. Possible pop up windows are shown below. Learning modules with tests receive a more detailed distribution of points.

Administrator scope and Leaderboard visibility

Administrators will see the a Leaderboard on their dashboard if there are participants in the Leaderboard within their scope.
