Configuring Training Huddle Sign-in Options
System Administrators may configure Training Huddles to use a variety of student sign-in options.
Read the article below to get an understanding of the settings available and how to configure Training Huddles to best support your organization!
What are Training Huddles?
Training Huddles allow instructors or supervisors to facilitate group training without having to pre-schedule an Instructor Led Training Session. Instructors or supervisors may launch certain types of learning modules and watch or walk through the content with a group of students. At the end of the huddle, included students will be granted completion credit for those modules.
For more information, see this article.
Training Huddle Settings
These settings are found in System Settings on the Learning Module tab underneath the Training Huddle section.
Require Student Authentication
Training Huddles allow you to choose whether or not to require students to authenticate, or log in to Cognition, before participating in a Training Huddle.
Students may authenticate by either entering their Cognition Username and Password (if applicable) or by using the QR Code Sign-in tool to log in.
Requiring Student Authentication can make Training Huddles more secure by helping to ensure that a student is present when the Training Huddle is started.
If you do not wish for students to have to authenticate by logging in to Cognition, you may uncheck this setting. If you do so, this will allow the instructor or supervisor running the Training Huddle to add students by name to the Sign-in.
Note: If you choose not to require Student authentication, remind instructors that it is their responsibility to verify all students are present and participating in the Training Huddle in order to receive credit.
Show On-screen Sign-in tools
This setting only applies when Require Student Authentication is checked.
It controls whether or not the Cognition Username and Password fields are shown at the top of the Training Huddle page.
Example of On-Screen Sign-in Tools. These will show if both Require Student Authentication and Show On-Screen Sign-in Tools are checked.
If your site utilizes a SAML integration, these username and password fields will not work for any users who use Single Sign On (SSO) to sign in to Cognition. Therefore, if the majority of your students use SSO rather than a dedicated Cognition password; it is recommended that you disable the On-Screen Sign-in Tools setting to avoid confusion.
When disabled, students will be able to sign-in using either use the QR Code Sign-in tool.
Use QR Code
This setting turns on the QR Code Sign-in option for Training Huddles and allows students to sign-in or add themselves to the Training Huddle by scanning a QR Code. This can be an easier, faster way to have students sign-in to a huddle by using their own personal devices.
For students who access the site with Single Sign On, using the QR Code will allow them to securely authenticate when signing into the Training Huddle.
Note: If Require Student Authentication is enabled, students who use SSO will need to use the QR Code Sign-in to authenticate. Be sure QR Code Sign-In is turned on for Training Huddles if your site uses SSO.
Additional Options for SAML/SSO Sites
If your site utilizes Single Sign On, there is an additional Training Huddle setting on the Single Sign On page under the More Options tab in System Settings.
This setting is called “Unregistered users default to QR Code Sign-in for Training Huddles”.
When checked, unregistered users will be prompted to use the QR Code Sign-in to register and login to Cognition. This is recommended if the majority of your users use SSO to sign-in.
If unchecked, users will be prompted to register their account by creating a Cognition password.
