Performance Scale Error Message Troubleshooting

The Performance Review Scale can not always be changed on a Performance Review when there are evaluations or other reviews with Goal Types that are using that same scale. This is to ensure consistency between evaluations and ensure correct scoring. If you encounter an error message when trying to update your scale, follow the guide below for some tips on how to troubleshoot the error.

Rating Scale cannot be changed because there are Overall Evaluations using this scale

This Performance Review has overall evaluations using the current rating scale, therefore the scale cannot be changed.

These overall evaluations may be for:

  • Active users who are in an HR Group associated with the review

  • Inactive users who are in an HR Group associated with the review

  • Ungrouped users (both active and inactive)

In order to change the scale, all overall evaluations using the current scale must first be removed.

Troubleshooting tips:

  • Run a Performance Review Status Report on you current Performance Review to see if any of the active or inactive users currently have overall evaluation data.

    • Be sure to change the User Status field to “Both Active and Inactive”

  • Review the Ungrouped Users in your Performance Review to see if there are any ungrouped users with an In-progress or Complete status. These users may have evaluation data.

    • To research the data for ungrouped users, contact your Cognition Support Representative for help.

  • Any evaluations will have to be removed in order to change the scale and filled out again.

Rating Scale cannot be changed because there are Users with rated goals belonging to a Goal Type associated with this Performance Review.

There are users with goal evaluations belonging to one or more of the Goal Types associated with this Performance Review, therefore the scale cannot be changed.

These goal evaluations may be for:

  • Active users who are in an HR Group associated with the review

  • Inactive users who are in an HR Group associated with the review

  • Ungrouped users (both active and inactive)

  • Active or inactive users who are no longer in this review but who had goal evaluations at the time that they were removed.

Troubleshooting tips:

  • Run a User Goal Report on the Goal Types that are within your Performance Review to see if there are any Goal evaluations on a different rating scale.

    • Be sure to filter on both Active and Inactive Users

    • Be sure to check “Goal Detail Fields” and “Performance Review Options” under Field Display Options

  • Any goal evaluations will have to be removed in order to change the scale and filled out again.

  • Review the Ungrouped Users in your Performance Review to see if there are any ungrouped users with an In-progress or Complete status. These users may have evaluation data.

    • To research the data for ungrouped users, contact your Cognition Support Representative for help.

Rating Scale cannot be changed because this review uses a Goal Type that is also used by other reviews on the current Rating Scale.

This Performance Review shares one or more Goal Types with another Performance Review that is on the same rating scale. A Goal Type cannot be on two different performance reviews with different rating scales, therefore this review’s scale cannot be changed.

Troubleshooting tips:

Review the Goal Types that you have included in your Performance Review. To see what other Performance Reviews the Goal Types are used in, click on the name of the Goal Type on the Goal Type tab of the review.

Before you can change the rating scale of your performance review, you will have to either:

  • Remove the Goal Types from all Performance Reviews before adjusting your scale and adding your Goal Type back

    • Note: This may not be ideal for Performance Reviews that are already In Review with active user data.

  • Create a new Goal Type to use for your current Performance Review.

This Goal Type cannot be added because it contains User Goals that have been previously rated on a different Rating Scale.

The Goal Type you attempted to add contains User Goals that were previously rated using a different scale than the scale that is being used by your current Performance Review. A Goal Type cannot contain User Goals that have been rated on different rating scales, therefore the Goal Type cannot be added to this review.

These goal evaluations may be for:

  • Active or inactive users who are in an active review that is using a different rating scale.

  • Active or inactive users who are no longer in an active review but who had goal evaluations at the time that they were removed.

Troubleshooting tips:

  • Run a User Goal Report on the Goal Type you attempted to add to see if there are any Goal evaluations on a different rating scale.

    • Be sure to filter on both Active and Inactive Users

    • Be sure to check “Goal Detail Fields” and “Performance Review Options” under Field Display Options

  • Any goal evaluations will have to be removed in order to change the scale and filled out again.

This Goal Type cannot be added because it is being used by by other performance reviews on a different Rating Scale.

The Goal Type you attempted to add is already used by a different Performance Review that is on a different rating scale. A Goal Type cannot be on two different performance reviews with different rating scales, therefore the Goal Type cannot be added to this review.

Troubleshooting tips:

In Goal Type Administration, search for your Goal Type to review what other Performance Reviews this Goal Type might be used in. If that Performance Review is on a different rating scale and has user goals that have been rated on a different scale

Before you can add this Goal Type your Performance Review, you will have to either:

  • Remove the Goal Types from all other Performance Reviews and adjust the scale on all of the Reviews to match the new scale before adding your Goal Type back

    • Note: This may not be ideal for Performance Reviews that are already In Review with active user data.

  • Create a new Goal Type to use for your current Performance Review.
