Why is this eLearning/video loading slowly or stalling?

Slow loading, excessive buffering, or getting stuck for eLearnings and videos can have various causes that are hard to pin down. This article is meant to help you figure out what’s causing your slow loading times.

Does the user have a good internet connection and bandwidth?

You can run a bandwidth speed test to see how the internet connection is performing (https://www.google.com/search?q=bandwidth+speed+test)

If the internet connection is slow, then the slow loading times are likely caused by this.

If the connection is fast, then there may be a different cause.

Is only one user experiencing this issue? Or does it happen to other users as well?

If more than one user is experiencing this then there might be a global issue (with the content or with a shared network, etc).

If it's only happening to one user, then it’s probably related to that user’s environment (their computer or their home network, etc).

Does this consistently happen at a certain time of day?

If so, the slow loading times might be caused by other users at the same location also using the internet connection, and bandwidth being limited. Or some other process being run on the same network.

For videos, how is the video playback behaving?

If the video loading/buffer bar constantly gets stuck, that most likely points to a internet connection/bandwidth issue.

If the loading bar keeps moving, but the playback is stuttering/stopping, then the user’s computer specs might not be inadequate. (Store computers are often low spec.)

Where is the user experiencing the issue?

Are they at home, a store, or a office? Different locations have different network setups that could be affecting bandwidth and performance.

If at home, the user may need to ensure their computer and their internet connection are good enough. (If they are using a VPN at home, the issue could be affected by either their home network or work network.)

If at a store or office, then your organization may need to ensure the computer and networking is setup correctly.

Are there any other applications open on the computer?

Other applications on the user's computer might be using the available internet bandwidth. Try closing other applications and relaunch Cognition’s Content to see if that alleviates the issue.

For low spec computers, other applications could be using the computer’s resources and slowing it down. (Store computers are often low spec.)
