Content Equivalencies allow a user to get credit for multiple modules after completing just one module.  There are two kinds of Content Equivalent relationships: Reciprocal, and One-way.  Any given module can only be included in one Content Equivalence relationship of any type at a time.

Reciprocal Relationships

A Reciprocal Content Equivalence relationship is a relationship between only two modules.  If both modules are on the user's Development Plan, then completing either module will grant credit for both modules.  The module that was completed naturally will receive a normal "Complete" status, while the equivalent module will receive an "Alternately Complete" status.  The 'Alternative Content' button will appear on a Learning Module if both modules are already on the user's Development Plan or if one module is on their Development Plan and the other module is published for them.  If the other module is unpublished, they will not see the 'Alternative Content' button at all.

Clicking the 'Alternative Content' button will open a modal similar to the one below.  If the other module is already on their Development Plan, they can navigate directly to the other module from this modal.  If the other module is not on the user's Development Plan, they can add it from this modal.  However, if the other module doesn't allow Student Electives, then the add icon will be grayed out and the user will not be able to add the other module.

One-way Relationships

A One-way relationship creates a one-to-many relationship.  Completing "one" module will grant credit for "many" additional modules.  (Note: It is possible for the "many" part of the relationship to contain only a single module.)  The 'Alternative Content' button will appear, but, unlike Reciprocal relationships, it will only appear on modules in the "many" part of the relationship.  Clicking the 'Alternative Content' button will only display the module in the "one" part of the relationship.  If the "one" module is not published for the user, the 'Alternative Content' button will not appear.  Similarly to Reciprocal relationships, the "one" module will receive a normal "Complete" status while "many" modules will receive an "Alternatively Complete" status.

Creating a Content Equivalency

To begin, click the 'Learning Management' menu at the top of the screen and select 'Learning Modules'.

On this page, search for the Learning module you want edit. Once you have picked which Learning Module, click the blue 'Edit' link to the right of the Learning Module title.

On this page, click on the blue 'More' drop down at the top of the screen and select 'Equivalent'.

Next, click on the button labeled 'Add Content Equivalent Relationship'. From here you can either add a reciprocal relationship with one module or a One-way relationship with a group of modules.

A modal similar to the one below will appear after clicking either button.  Use the modal to select which module or modules you want to add to the Content Equivalent relationship.
